Aura's first walk

Aura, just under 3 months old has now had all of her jabs and is ready to get outdoors and explore.

Getting out of the car, I held onto her.

"Be careful out there little one" I gave her one last cuddle.

Andrew set his timer to 8 minutes, at 8 minutes we promised to turn back and make it back to the car to prevent any over exertion on her little limbs.

I gently placed her on the ground, she lifted her little paws in surprise at the cold.

"Come!" Andrew called.

... and off they trotted ahead of me.

We wound our way through the forest, overnight a light dusting of snow had fallen, making the ground hard underfoot.

Off lead, Aura chased Apollo, trying to keep up with him and following the same scents.

With a merino jumper as a base layer and waterproof Aura ran alongside Apollo, nervous at first. He gave her confidence by maintaining eye contact and checking on her as they explored.

Within no time at all she gained confidence, treading the cold ground and following scents...

The shallow dusting of snow perplexed her, she sniffed at frozen leaves, unsure about what was going on...

... but always keeping a beady eye on Apollo...

... especially as he stalked through the trees...

... something had captured his inner hunter, and he was intent that this big, dangerous, monster of the woods would not defeat him...

... but Little Robin Red Breast conquered, remaining undefeated.

After stalking the illusive little robin without success, we returned to the car, heating on full.

Apollo and Aura curled beside each other on the back seats, harnessed and strapped in securely. It didn't take long before they both closed their eyes in a sigh and snored away while Andrew and I gushed about how well they both did on her first walk.

Half an hour later, they both woke and sat to attention as we stopped the car.

Apollo looked around, then started howling in excitement, he knew what was in store for them and he couldn't wait to get through the front door.

As we entered Aura wagged her tail and said hello to the humans as we exchanged hugs and new years wishes.

Then...

... behind a closed door five girls barked with excitement.

One of which was Aura's mother, another was her Grandmother, her Great Aunt, her Great Grandmother, and the last one, her big Sister.

It took her no time at all to demand attention from her sister...

Aura clambered over Lexi, demanding engagement...

When Lexi tried to cuddle up to Andrew...

...Aura took it upon herself to assert her dominance and possession...

... While Apollo and Aura's Great Aunt and Grandmother were way more interested in the squirrels...

... and Jas the eldest did her best tricks for treats

... showing Aura how to sit patiently.

Then, tired and very content after a play with her Pack, we scooped up two tired dogs, said our goodbyes, and bundled into the car for a very quiet journey home - apart from the occasional snore from the back seat!
