Bridport Hat Festival // Venner Bar

We had just arrived in Bridport, a small town on the South Coast which has been home to my family for centuries.

On the journey Southwards twitter was bursting with excitement about the Bridport Hat Festival - a weekend of celebrations founded by my family Hatters and Outfitters.

The Venner Bar tweeted teasers for their new cocktail menu, promising trays of canapés and a perfect atmosphere.

Flagging with M5 motorway fatigue, we made our way to the Bull Hotel, a beautiful boutique hotel in the centre of Bridport.

We wound our way through to the Venner Bar, my favourite bijoux hideaway on an early evening and a great late night bolthole to decompress with a brimming atmosphere. It's the best location in the town for evening atmosphere, made even better with Lloyd the Barman's excellent cocktail concoctions - like these gems made from Dorset's Black Cow Vodka

Eager, we arrived early and found my favourite plush chesterfield - though the rococo arm chairs were so tempting.

But Cici, my little sister, and I wanted a catchup and a slouch.

Unsure about where to start on the menu, Cici sipped a Mojito and I started with a Camomile Infused Bullet Bourbon.

We unpicked the menu - wanting a try at everything, but aware that we had a family dinner to get back to as the rest of the team arrived.

Upon my Godmother's recommendation, I went for a champagne cocktail. Mmm it was delicious (cue heart eyed emoji!).

Cici remained ambitious with her choices, trying Mai Tai's with flaming pizzazz. Soon, the bar was full with laughter and chatter. With such a social atmosphere we overheard our sofa buddies chatting about Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, my current home, and we jumped in and introduced ourselves. We chatted, laughed, ordered more rounds.

Nibbled delicious selections of treats from the bar.

Then, before the next round, left our new friends for the evening, bid our farewells, took a few selfies.

We strolled back to the family who were knee deep in prosecco celebrations, we chatted for hours and before we knew it, the night had disappeared and it was time to hit the hay.

Snook squared 💕🍸🐒
