Golden Woodland Walks in the Chilterns
There's been an eerie mist hanging low around the hills over the last few days.
As any dog owner will attest, no matter what the weather, you've got to get out for a walk. Luckily though, I kinda like bad weather. It's always so much quieter out there, and as long as you're dressed for it in technical layers, you can face the elements.
We dipped down under the mist across the ridgeway fields.
Past a field of cows...
...and into an open clearing where we let the dogs run free...
Apollo not only ran free but also attempted his best bunny impersonation.
The birds watched from the tips of the trees as the dogs looped the fields.
The Red Kites came to terms with the fact that any prey they had been watching would have been disturbed, so they left to find a quieter spot...
As we made our way along the fields the mist grew heavier and visibility dropped.
So we ducked into the golden treeline....
Which was quiet for all but a second with peaceful bliss until...
While Apollo and Aura looped up and down the path, I played with handfuls of golden leaves, launching them into the air and at Andy.
Aura wasn't at all happy with this, especially after I launched a handful of slugs that had burrowed into the leaves and then freaked out as they landed on my face.
Oh, sorry Aura, resume play.
While fixated on another, boxing and chasing, a little squirrel watched from a safe spot.
We continued along the path, ducking in and out of fields and woodlands.
With a beautiful golden backdrop we ambled, listening to the birds above calling in alarm as we walked.
With hair dampened by the mist and the clouds rolling in, we made our way back home...
Ready to set the log burner up at home and air a bottle of favourite red. Ah winter, let's do this.
