The Africa Inn, Oudtshoorn, South Africa

Andrew reminded me that I can't take credit for this find.

He found the Africa Inn via a mountain bike forum which shared information about the fantastic trails on the land. I got in touch with Gert, the fantastic gentleman who owns four chalets (we stayed in no.1) and two rondavals in his huge grounds on the hillside. We had communicated via emails and on the day of arrival we had been texting him with our ETA, when we mentioned we were around George picking up lunch, he sent a message back immediately giving us the headsup about Victoria Bay.

When we arrived he gave us a run through of the beautiful trails on his land and helped sort out bike hire for two days. He ran through the best local places to visit and was the one who recommended Karusa vineyard for lunch.

Our home for a few days was wonderfully secluded and surrounded by the mountains, the drive up the hill from the main road was not for the faint hearted but absolutely achievable in our little Ford Eco Sport.

After navigating the beautiful passes up to Oudtshoorn we were thrilled to arrive.

The views were spectacular. Other nearby hotels and lodges that we initially optioneered all look up onto the wonderful expanse of land around the Africa Inn. Without doubt  we made the best choice! Coming from the drought stricken Western Cape we were thrilled to hear about Gert's water management system and the dams he has on the property to sustainably fill the plunge pools.

There was firewood and matches ready for us to whip up a home cooked dinner and the chalet was split into three rooms, a beautiful bedroom each side of a large kitchen living room which opened onto a large porch where we spent all of our waking time.

Utterly content and oh so happy, we cracked open a few beers to play a game of Yahtzee with the beautiful soundtrack of birds chirping.

The sun dipped right the way down behind the huge looming Swartberg mountains in the far distance. These moments make my heart ache for Africa because it's beauty is immense. We've all promised to return here, infact we can't stop telling friends and family about this find! The huge luxury comes with the trails and ability to hire wonderful bikes to explore fully.
